The Cagire ascent from Maison du Coué
The Cagire (1,912 m) is the summit directly overlooking the hamlet of Coué de Casse. A great day's walk and a panorama over the border range and the Toulouse plain, just minutes from the cottage.
The summit overlooking the cottage
Seen from the terrace of Maison du Coué, the silhouette of the Cagire dominates the whole landscape: it's the reason for the area's name, "at the foot of the Cagire". Its ascent is one of the great day walks in the Comminges, with a 360° panorama over the Pyrenean border range and, on a clear day, the Toulouse plain.
The route
The ascent is most often done starting from Le Mourtis, about twenty minutes' drive from the cottage. Allow a good day's walk, to adapt to your fitness and the weather. For the exact map, distances and current conditions, the Cagire Garonne Salat tourist office in Aspet remains the best source.
For a shorter, more accessible outing straight from the hamlet, the marked "In the Deer's Footsteps" trail offers a gentler loop through meadows and forest, along the wildlife's crossing points.
